There’s plenty of young talent in the Netherlands, but attracting and retaining the right candidates isn’t always easy. To stand out among other employers and highlight the Operations Traineeship, Boskalis has been collaborating with the Game Studio of Frisse Blikken since 2018. Our task: to develop surprising recruitment and selection processes to attract the right trainees.
Boskalis is a multinational company specializing in large-scale and complex design, maintenance, and construction of infrastructure. With over 11,000 experts on board, Boskalis is constantly on the lookout for new talent, especially for its Operations Traineeship. Years of collaboration with Boskalis have given us a deep understanding of the company, its mission, and the ideal employee profile. Together, we design eye-catching campaigns that perfectly match Boskalis and attract the right candidates. Here’s what the 2023 edition looked like.
Our Fresh Perspective
Coffee with Boskalis
The potential candidates for the traineeship are still studying when Boskalis approaches them. Unsurprisingly, many students are keen on a good cup of coffee. That’s why we visited various colleges and universities with a standout coffee truck. The coffee was the perfect icebreaker to inform and excite potential candidates about the traineeship. During the campaign, we spoke to over 500 students with the right profile.
From Excitement to Selection
Once the applications start rolling in, it’s crucial to maintain the candidates’ enthusiasm. How? With clear and consistent communication about the next steps in the selection process, delivered through channels that resonate with the new generation. We handle this for Boskalis by developing and executing a strong communication plan. In the latest edition, we created a mix of communication tools and channels—from videos to webinars—to engage closely with the candidates.
Gamified Selection Day
The grand finale of the selection process was the gamified selection day, where candidates got a taste of what it’s like to work at Boskalis. Through a serious game developed specifically for Boskalis, candidates were put through a real challenge they might face during the traineeship, for four hours. As they played, assessors observed not just how they approached the challenge but also how they collaborated with others. The result speaks for itself: the 2023 traineeship was filled with outstanding trainees.
